The Virgin of Juarez plot

Hundreds of innocent young women are murdered in the border town of Ciudad Juarez. Reporter Karina Danes investigates this series of murders. She meets one of the few survivors of these horrific misdeeds, Mariela. She is a woman of heavenly and charismatic appearance, who during her recovery period sees, among other things, visions of the Virgin Mary. Mariela soon becomes a symbol of hope for many. When she moves east from Los Angeles, she even turns into a Joan of Arc-esque figure for a neo-Christian gang of Latinos. Karina closely follows the incredible story of a young woman's transformation. In the end, her involvement even turns out to be too great, when the gang shatters into drama and violence.
