Reasonable.

It is especially the first hour that manages to impress. The manhunt is still exciting and the environment challenging.
Leaving the rugged mountains, Seraphim Falls also leaves its high level. Little by little slack moments creep in.
The flashback scenes feel a bit forced. The ending isn't really satisfying either.

Pierce Brosnan will never really appeal to me, but here he is still doable. His beard gives him a less narcissistic look. He's not bad at acting either. However, some moments are over-the-top. "You said the house was empty" isn't the best scene.
Liam Neeson is a bit disappointed here. Such a colored head of hair also does not fit in a western.

Cinematically, the first hour stands out compared to the rest. The chasing is portrayed claustrophobic enough. That feeling is diminishing more and more.
Seraphim Falls also lacks a real recognizable soundtrack. Musically it is not much.

Average.

Tough genre that western. Some movies can really get me excited, but then another classic comes along that is too boring for words. I had few expectations of Seraphim Falls, but I still like it very much. Not only does the cat-and-mouse game work very well, the nature graphics and the acting are both excellent. The director has done well to throw the viewer in at the deep end as far as the motives and backgrounds are concerned. It's also nice to find out during the film for a change.

Seraphim Falls feels like a road movie, because the main characters find themselves in different situations along the way and encounter different characters. This ensures that the film remains exciting and captivating. Not a bad actor to be found here and the ending doesn't disappoint me. I can imagine that some people would be disappointed, but in my view this print is more about the hunt than the final catch (read: ending). I still regularly see the film for a euro and if you can appreciate westerns even a little, you will not go wrong with this.

Well....... different.

Not that bad actually, but a few things prevent a really good rating.

First, the film seems to have a wrong structure. It doesn't work towards a climax, rather it is the other way around. After an exciting opening in a wintry environment, the film continues to sink in. Secondly, the proverbial monkey comes out well before the end of the film and finally Seraphim Falls ends unsatisfactorily after a much too long-winded finale.

This sounds harder than I actually mean: Seraphim Falls is fine optical viewing with great camera work, but there could have been so much more.

Although this is seen differently by many, Brosnan fits me well in his role. He has clearly worked on his appearance, comes across as rough enough and his otherwise typical mannerisms are absent. After a few minutes you forget that he really doesn't belong in a western.

Unfortunately, this is not the case with Liam Neeson. With his expensive, spotless hat and his aristocratic demeanor, he clearly shows that he is in the wrong movie. The way he moves, rides a horse, talks: it all doesn't fit. You expect him to pull his cell phone out of his pocket at any moment.

Surprisingly convincing: Michael Wincott.
