Pretty cheesy video.

From the very beginning, even without knowing the "true story" on which this is based, it is clear where this film is going. An American story about perseverance, I believe own abilities, perseverance wins and the American Dream.

Smith's character is portrayed as a man who has to deal with quite a few setbacks, but to be honest he is mostly naive and just takes huge risks. If things don't work out, then you end up in such a situation. Of course Smith can't help that, but the film has to suffer from that.

The fact that he eventually becomes a stock broker and that he has earned a lot of money with it is of course also a bit dubious, not exactly the most honorable profession there is. But hey, that shouldn't get in the way of morality.

The shape of the film is also rather dull. The addition of the baby provides extra sentiment, everything is well-behaved and the score is corny and tested. Typical Hollywood work, without too many frills, but above all extremely sentimental.

One to quickly forget. Smith does his best, but other than that it's mostly annoying and waiting for it to be over.

1.5*

Quite good.

In the beginning I had little faith in it, yet another predictable story about the man (Smith) who gets all the misery over him and with whom it will probably turn out all right. Fortunately, Muccino manages to infuse real emotion into the film, where many other directors fail.

Smith plays strong, Smith junior is cute and the chemistry between the 2 is very evident. Excellent choice by Muccino to let Smith's real son play the son. This allows you to quickly empathize and empathize with the main characters.

The film is captivating, moving and very catchy. Not that it made me cry, but I did feel it coming on sometimes. Sometimes a bit too strong, but in general it all went pretty well. 117 minutes wasn't too long.

It is emotional and moving at times, especially because it is sometimes quite realistic, but Muccino manages to pull it all off nicely. Good drama movie.

They call it the American dream over there on the other side of the big puddle. How one can become a successful stockbroker and millionaire from a miserable existence with poverty and debt through hard work and perseverance. I especially found it a super annoying film because from the very beginning it was clear how the film was going to end. And it lasts and it lasts and the misery just keeps getting bigger and bigger... (yawn yawn)

I'll just say a film for fans, because in its genre it meets all the requirements. But for people like me who do believe all those clichés, I recommend watching the first fifteen minutes, then fast-forward and then see a bit of the last part. That saves you at least an hour and a half. Too bad I watched the whole movie.
