"An incredible journey moving at the speed of sound."
Two young musicians meet by chance in New York at night. This leads to a romance that is unfortunately short-lived. The rich father of the woman is against the relationship and thus the lovers lose each other. Then the woman turns out to be pregnant. Because of her father, she thinks her child is stillborn. The boy ends up in an orphanage. He turns out to be a great musical genius. He is sure that his parents will come for him one day. When that takes too long, the boy decides to go out into the wide world. He feels that music connects him to his parents, so he follows the music to find them. That seems like a difficult and impossible road. His incredible musical talent even gets in the way. The search becomes even more complicated when he takes on a new stage name: August Rush.

“You got to love music more than you love food. More than life. More than yourself.”
A real Christmas movie. Sweet, sentimental, melancholic, with strong music and fun characters. Rhys Meyers and Russell are strong and can say a lot by a facial expression or a glance. There is chemistry between the two, which makes you believe in their inseparable bond from the start. Very important in these kind of movies.
Highmore isn't the best child actor I've ever seen, but he's adequate. The character Robin Williams plays was especially annoying and that subplot should have been left out. Even the biggest cynic will not be insensitive to the latest scene in Central Park.

What a beautiful and sensitive drama film. Full moon, where one passionate night can lead to...... Oh how sad! They both kept coming back to that arc, but each time they missed each other. Love all that music in the film, where classical and rock meet, opposites attract. How beautifully played by Freddie Highmore: Evan, a musical prodigy, born for music... That's why ambient noise got to him so strongly. It's not a fairy tale, such musical prodigies really exist! Nice quote from Wizard: Do you know what music is? God's reminder that there is more in the universe besides us. A harmonious connection between all living things, everywhere, even the stars! Film plays a lot on the streets in NY, Chicago and San Francisco. Cinematography in an abandoned theater is very special. What an intense love story, beautifully filmed!
