The Headsman plot
Tyrol, 16th century. Orphaned children Martin and Georg are taken into a monastery by some monks. The children are inseparable for years, until the Archbishop takes Georg under his wing and prepares them as a priest. Martin becomes a soldier. While on leave, Martin falls in love with the beautiful Anna, daughter of an executioner. In order to get her hand, however, he must take over her father's profession. That proves difficult, especially when Georg from above has to lead the inquisition in the area and orders executioners, including Martin, to kill the infidels. Martin doesn't feel like this...
