Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee has a quiet life with the tourists who want to watch him catch crocodiles. His girlfriend Sue suddenly gets the offer to replace her father at the newspaper office in Los Angeles. Dundee thinks this is a great opportunity because it allows them to show their son Mikey something of city life. Once on the job, Sue immediately throws herself into the case of a small film company that is making some pretty strange business decisions. Her suspicion is that the company is hiding a smuggling operation. Mick Dundee takes a job on the movie set to help with the investigation.

As far as farm humor goes, I like to watch our lovable crocodile hunter. The first two films about Mick may be better. I can enjoy this supposedly failed third part in the series. It doesn't matter whether he lives in the Australian bush or elsewhere. This time he puts Hollywood and the decadent part of Los Angeles on the block. It's nice that a lot of criticism is secretly expressed about the 'better' American life.
The story is quite simple, of course. It's been a long time since I saw the first two Crocodile Dunee's, but I think a criminal gang was always dealt with there too. Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles is fed up with all those skits where Mick uses one of his talents or his farming wits. Not every joke is successful, but there are quite a few laughs. Jacko was a nice addition. Too bad about the low average here. The acting was perhaps not too good, but that is more than compensated for.

This third part clearly focuses more on humor. That's a serious break from the previous two films, where a balance was sought with adventure/action. There is again a crime plot associated with it, but this only plays a role in the last twenty minutes, which makes it not very interesting. This movie gets very bad marks, because there were some nice scenes in it like the intro scene with that crocodile in Australia and the cameo of Mike Tyson. This third and last Crocodile Dundee also has to give up on the very good original.

If there is a film that proves the statement that a second part is always disappointing, it is this third part. Very little is added to parts 1 and 2, other than the movie-within-a-movie plot element whose idea is to make a movie as a distraction from a much darker plot. You would almost wonder what shady plot Hogan and Kozlowski had when they made this misfire. But in the absence of such a sinister dual agenda, I'll just say it's just a really bad movie.
And fifteen years later, that too. It's barely noticeable on Hogan/Dundee, and not so much on Kozlowski either. That hurts somehow, to read on Wikipedia etc that after the first two parts Dundee she already got the feeling that she was too old for Hollywood and was no longer offered decent roles. Sad stuff, and let that be the only thing this film has any use for.
