Very enjoyable film from start to finish, with some genuinely funny and moving moments. The acting is great and especially Victor Moore and Beulah Bondi play their roles with great passion and conviction. The conversations between the two actors seem very casual and it wouldn't surprise me if they were improvised. The story itself and all the humor and compassion that flows from it is almost timeless. The open ending also has an impact. Recommended.

You would think this is a movie from the 50's. With a generation that only lived for their children with little space for themselves or time to think about the future. And that in contrast to a baby boom generation that has it right and does not always question it. And who wants to keep the luxury they have won. What we know as the baby boom generation is of course mainly the 50s/60s in Europe, while in America it happened before.

A film about an older couple who have devoted their entire lives to the children and now that they are retired, they no longer have the income to keep their house. But the kids each have their own lives and don't feel like taking both, let alone one of them. It creates the necessary tension for children and children-in-law. It's not a black and white story. The children are doing their best, but perhaps they could have put some water into the wine or better look for a suitable solution. The parents are faced with a fait accompli, but sometimes they also come across as a bit pathetic as the beaten dog. But it is a realistic problem and also confrontational. The couple has 5 children and you would think that they would take care of their parents later. But even with 5 children, the solution is not so ready-made.

The film has less of the impact of say Umberto D, Ikiru or Tokyo Story (to name a few similar films), but is beautiful in its simplicity.

A moving story about growing older , children who have their own lives and the problems that arise because they take their parents into separate homes and the conflicts that surround them .

There are no real sharp edges to it, but that is not necessary in this film, the message is clear enough.

Both parents play their part very well , you can hardly believe that they play a part , one of the daughters is a very annoying person .
