Why is it so popular to completely criticize these kinds of films? I don't get it, because Crusade In Jeans is very adventurous. Is it because of the long playing time? The film is far from slow, so I watched it effortlessly. The acting is pretty decent, especially for a film with so many children and teenagers. You won't win prizes for acting talents with this, but what I've seen here is far from bad and certainly not disturbing. What I read nothing about is the English language, which is illogical in both the modern and the past tense.

I cannot make a comparison with the book, because I have only read a few fragments of it. Knowing Thea Beckman, the tone will be the same. Like her books, this film is educational and (once again) adventurous. Not 1970s stuff, of course, but here it is clearly adapted to our time. By the way, I also thought that the time travel in the book happened through a strange plate in the open air, but I could also be confused with another book.

The story is very nice. It has a high road movie content, only it is a different time. Children's crusades are not exactly the most fascinating subject for me, but here it is discussed from an interesting angle. Certainly the way Christianity and the local spiritual leaders are portrayed surprises me. Normal people are portrayed as stupid and ignorant. It all fits within the typical narrative style of Thea Beckman. Despite some hard scenes, it is also a great children's film. Especially when you see what they have put together with the budget of 12 million.

Disappointing film adaptation of my most favorite childhood book.

The film is somewhat adapted to the present day, and that in itself is not a big problem.

But the amalgamation of the Italian student Leonardo Fibonacci from Pisa and the young

girl Mariecke from Cologne (now Jenne) I thought was the biggest loss of the original story.

I know..... You can't explore all the characters in the book in 125 minutes, because there is

also Dom Anselmus' double agenda that plays an important role in the plot, and of course the many hardships the children have to endure during that infernal crusade.

(that last one doesn't come across very well either... but alla; viewing guide classification 9..)

As a standalone film; with a reasonable 3*** still a sufficient

But the book is much better! ! ! ! !

Doesn't have that much.

Saw it once but it's been so long that I didn't vote. Now reviewing it and I'm actually left with the same feeling I had on the first viewing, and that's not exactly positive or surprised.

Flynn is still ok in the lead role, but he can't really carry it. His character isn't interesting enough to watch for 125 minutes. The idea starts off nice, but soon the clichés come into play and it starts to get less and less.

I've never read the book, nor had any real interest in getting started. Could be because I've seen the movie before. Environment was also not special, in the historical area I have not become any wiser.

In the end it's watchable, but I didn't really like it anywhere. Acting too neutral, predictable story and a playing time that goes on just a little too long. The open ending doesn't add much either.
