Still great.

A film that defines Kitano. The story may not be cohesive, but that's part of the man. Nearly every aspect of Kitano is explored, from locations and characters to the various forms of humor he enjoys.

It's a film that requires some knowledge of the man. It's an ode to himself, but he also enjoys making himself look like a man in Takeshi's. The last half hour is especially brilliant, with almost any narrative seemingly completely erased from the film.

Visually stunning, a great soundtrack, fantastic acting, and a fantastic set-up. I can't see any other way to portray Kitano as a person than this final result. Courageous and unique.

4.5* and an extensive review

A film within a film, a film with a doppelganger and delightfully absurd, confusing scenes that ooze fun. That's what Kitano's Takeshis is all about. You don't have to go there for the content, as it's a potpourri of amusing, sometimes even wacky, scenes. And on top of that, everything isn't chronological. The idea, I think, is to completely let go of the content and simply immerse yourself in Kitano's world.

I do expect a bit more substance from a film, but aside from that, it's simply entertaining. It's typical Kitano, and he pulls it off very easily. It's more of a parody. Not everything was equally great for me. Good for a one-off, but I'll never be a die-hard fan.

Visually pleasing at times, the content barely captivated me. Not my kind of film (or humor—somehow this felt like a comedy), and the acting wasn't my cup of tea either. So, I spent an hour and a half looking at pretty pictures, but I was quite bored. The film is a bit confusing, and I quickly lost interest in what was actually happening. 1.5 stars.
