Delicious.

1 of the better horror movies I've seen so far, although this might not be called a full-blooded horror. The combination of courtroom drama (which clearly takes the upper hand here) and horror doesn't seem too interesting, but it works here in a crazy way.

Strong role from Linney & Carpenter. But Wilkinson and Scott also make a good impression. But it is mainly Linney & Carpenter who take this film on their shoulders and clearly know how to kick it to a higher level, something that a film like this needs.

Derrickson is an interesting director. Although it wasn't his horror films that convinced me, he always manages to deliver at least an entertaining film. This was by far his best horror movie for me that he has delivered so far.

Interestingly portrayed at times, nervous and floating movements work quite well and the film is atmospheric. The court, though a bit exaggerated at times, is interesting to watch and the horror is tense and intense.

Intense horror that sometimes gives the chills (Carpenter in that pose in the corner of the room was extremely atmospheric) but in general is very entertaining and knows how to be quite intense at times. At least I was glued to the tube, and that's a positive thing.

In addition, the film also manages to hit the right chord emotionally at times. After the movie, I was quite impressed that I was completely in the movie. This atmospheric court drama with some strong horror moments has entertained and captivated me. This one is definitely going into my favorites.

The movie was exactly what we expected. The eerie in the story, director Scott Derrickson could have added more for many viewers, but we think the story is processed in the right proportions in the film. The largest part is spent on the trial in which Attorney Erin Bruner is up against the prosecutor Ethan Thomas, who prefers to let Father Moore admire the inside of the prison for years.

For future viewers: the film does not show much of the exorcism, it often revolves around the question of whether the pastor is guilty or not.

Our rating: 7+.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose has a gloomy and subcutaneously scary atmosphere hanging over it in the first place. It's not so much in your face (although there are some standard scares in it nonetheless); Scott Derrickson mainly creates an oppressive feeling that is difficult to let go of as a viewer. Creating and maintaining that sinister and lurid atmosphere is definitely where his strength as a director lies. The combination between the court part and the horror elements is not always well balanced (the balance leans a bit towards the former, and should have leaned a bit more towards the horror side in my opinion), but in general it is an interesting fact and story, and Derrickson manages to make it into a whole that is put together successfully. Only in the last fifteen minutes does it get a bit sweeter, so to speak, but it stays within the lines. Visually a very nice film (especially the shot on which the poster is based); the atmosphere is therefore excellent.

Sinister I think Derrickson's best so far, but also with this earlier work of his I got a good 'shudder' again. Good horror director. 3.5* for Emily Rose.
