DJay is a little pimp from Memphis who makes frantic efforts to start a career as a rapper. He tries to get his debut album on the market, with the help of his friends from the 'hood'. When he learns that rap superstar Skinny Black will be visiting the area, DJay hatches a plan to get the star's attention.

Although this kind of music doesn't really appeal to me, I still think this is a pleasant film: a good story and a good cast.

Terrence Howard has shown that he can act well before, but I was very surprised by Taraji P. Henson's acting in a supporting role as his pregnant girlfriend Shug.
