These kinds of musicals did well in the 1950s. It gave people some relaxation, against the background of the Cold War, McCarthysm, etc. Now in 2011, these kinds of musicals are nothing, but the music of Cole Porter is still rock solid. Although this is not my favorite musical, watching it still gives me a happy feeling. I can't help it either. The beautiful songs are well performed and the story (a variant on Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew") is also quite okay. Highlight: Keenan Wynn and James Whitemore's idiotic duet.
