His doubts seem to drive the two apart. Their son Joaquin is now ten years old and knows nothing about his father's double life. At the same time, new plans are being hatched by the same culprits who wanted to keep California out of the US. "And they lived happily ever after"

Sneaked in assuming it was the first with Zeta-Jones and Banderas. But alas, this is the comically intended sequel, sort of campy reality TV. What happens after the hero gets the girl? Dirty diapers, no longer going out with your friends, your hobbies gone and whining about your head with a drinking problem as a result.

That's about the first half, after that it looks a bit more like the adventure movie it should be. Film is a form of escapism, after all, not the same hassles as at home, but with flashy actors instead of that somewhat boring couple sitting on the couch at home watching.

It didn't make me happy.

In 1998 the wonderful adventure film The Mask of Zorro was released. In line with, for example, The Mummy, we got a colorful adventure film with the necessary action and humor. By 2005, that genre had changed. Bourne Identity from 2002 would, among other things, reinvent the Bond series with Casino Royale (2006). And Batman Begins from 2005 also determined the blockbusters that would get a bit more 'realism' and 'serious'. With The Legend of Zorro that is not so bad, but you do feel that things are not quite right with the film. The odd one out in the renewed blockbusters, but at the same time it doesn't sit well with the script that is a mess. Batman and Bond can safely go darker, Zorro has to keep that nostalgic heroic. The man in the cape and mask who fences with the sword. Nice and airy without being childish.

The film itself is not too bad and Antonio Banderas is the suitable Zorro. The rest is pretty bland Campbell doesn't really have it all in his hands. It feels like a forced sequel, while a character like Zorro can easily get more movies. Wondering if we'll see him back on the big screen soon.
