Pride and prejudice but certainly also money: "Lucky Lizzie. She will have 10,000 £ a year, while poor Jane only 5..."
The oldest film version of Jane Austen's novel!? Quite pleasant to follow this often grotesque stuff of the Society, the witty dialogues and the neat direction.
Film won an Oscar for art/direction. They could also have thought of an excellent Greer Garson and Mary Boland in the role of the mother of 5 marriageable daughters was also good in her role.

the oldest version that is quite enjoyable, there is no denying that money and status play a very important role in the choice of the ladies and the family.
