One of the very last successful films (in 1963 followed by "Chair de Poule") by Julien Duvivier.
The theme of bringing together a number of people who try to solve a mystery or murder is not new in the film world, but here it is very special with the search for a traitor in a resistance movement, 15 years after the facts.
Traditionally, there is one location (what a beautiful setting) and Duvivier cast many French names, who of course provide very solid and convincing acting.
The film is certainly exciting because a surprising twist is never far away until the end.
If it concerns a settlement of a war betrayal, from the actions of all suspects one could deduce some social criticism on the part of the filmmaker on French post-war society (Protecting oneself above all, passing on accusations, the need for a to find the guilty party, the unworthiness of personal revenge...).
Saw a neat version, restored this year and now read that there is also a remake from 2008, with Nathalie Baye (she can certainly handle that) in the leading role, but as a film not with the same impact as this well-made "Marie-Octobre" from 1959.

Stage French whodunnit with a top cast in great form. Declines a bit after the promising start, but remains good overall.
