”Oh, Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars.”

This is a strong film, which I hadn't expected to be this good beforehand. Bette Davis is a fine actress, but I don't always fully appreciate her work. Even though I have already seen her most famous roles, I still consider this to be her strongest performance to date. She plays a very vulnerable character who undergoes a very convincing and believable development. I don't consider her a beautiful woman, but it is primarily her presence and non-verbal acting that she executes excellently here.

The other roles are also well portrayed. I consider Claude Rains a very fine actor anyway, but Gladys Cooper also gives a very strong performance as Davis's angry mother. The story flows very smoothly from the start, without hiccups or glitches, and it can be said right away that the direction is also perfectly fine.

The atmosphere is good too, but it is primarily the combination of character development, the story, and the strong acting that made me enjoy this film so much. Now, Voyager may be a somewhat lesser-known classic, but it certainly deserves to be watched, because it is simply a very good film.

A good film in which a woman faces life reborn after a cruise. The mother-daughter relationship is well developed, as is the woman's transformation. The excellent Bette Davis is largely responsible for this. Somewhat melodramatic here and there, and the film could have been a bit shorter (especially the romance during the cruise).

Davis is Cooper's unwanted daughter, whose aversion turns the girl into a neurotic wreck. Thanks to the help of psychiatrist Rains, Davis undergoes an almost miraculous recovery, but inwardly she remains very insecure.

During a cruise, she falls in love with the married Henreid.

A beautiful, sentimental film that holds up thanks to the excellent acting performance, primarily by Davis.

The whole story is so improbably exaggerated that it took someone with the talent of a Davis to make the audience swallow it, but Gladys Cooper also gives an impressive performance as Davis's wicked mother.

Sensitive souls should definitely bring a stack of tissues.

It is a shame that, despite the rather long running time, no time was made for Jerry's wife in the story.

The fascinatingness also lies in the fact that both Jerry and Charlotte are trapped in a kind of similar family situation.

Max Steiner received an Oscar for his score.
