Silent Running plot

"Amazing companions on an incredible adventure... that journeys beyond imagination!"

Freeman Lowell takes care of the plants in giant greenhouses in space. Since the last trees on the earth have long since disappeared, Lowell takes care of the greenery with heart and soul. When he is ordered from Earth to destroy the greenhouses, he refuses.

Oops, that was a disappointment. With the hippie songs of Joan Baez, ''Silent Running'' feels like a kind of Woodstock in space at too many moments, and the constant presence of a slightly wooden Bruce Dern in tunic doesn't really help. You have to give Trumbull especially what has been realized with a relatively limited budget in the face of the film. Thematically and script-wise, there is far too little stretch and dynamics in it; the message is clear early on, which is why it is mainly a party for the biggest fans of panels, robots and other gadgets.
