The dry tone of the film in combination with the voice-over is very comical at times, but emotionally the pace of the film is therefore not very high. That makes a Christmas Story a bit of a fall through the cracks for me. In the end I just had to struggle through it a bit. What also surprises me is the extremely high score on IMDB. While I've never heard of this movie until this week.

An original film in itself, with humor that is both curious and silly at the same time. But I was done with it after a while.
I understand the comparison with The Wonder Years, but this film never reaches that level.
