I thought it was a shame that Julie Delpy actually only has a modest role in this film.

Actually, it is a tour-de-force by Zbigniew Zamachowski, in which the way in which Poland is rapidly becoming wealthy is told very succinctly.

"Bialy" (Blanc) is slightly better than Part 1 (Blue) of Kieslowski's trilogy, but a lot less than the last part (Rouge). Nice the cross connection with the other parts with the glass container scene.

Starts off nice (not more than that), but once in Poland it all becomes very improbable and far-fetched... If this "just" came from Hollywood, the ratings here would be pretty low I'm afraid...

As in the other films in the triptych by Krzysztof Kieslowski, I see no direct link with the other films or symbolic comparison with the French flag or slogan in this part. The color white is more pronounced here with the winter scenes, but that's about it. The film starts with a divorce that the man finds it difficult to accept. The wife is resolute and compelling in the court's decision.

Completely destitute, he becomes a self-made man in the criminal environment and wants revenge. From a total loser - because that's how he was portrayed in the beginning - to a man of prestige. The setup is nice, although I wonder if it is all as simple as it is suggested. Technically another entertaining film by Krzysztof Kieslowski, but it doesn't really drive me wild. Anyway, I think the third part "Rouge" is the best of the three films.

Julie Delpy is doing just fine and will later become even more famous in Richard Linklater's romantic intellectual trilogy.
