Teen Holly Hamilton (Hillary Duff) is tired of moving house when her single mom Jean (Heather Locklear) finds herself in another relationship crisis. To give her a little distraction after her latest failed relationship, Holly devises the perfect plan for the perfect man...an imaginary secret admirer who courts Jean to boost her bruised ego. However, when the virtual relationship begins, Holly must find a suitable lover. She asks her friend's charming and handsome uncle (Chris Noth) to be the face behind all the notes and presents. Holly must take increasingly drastic measures to perpetuate the lie and protect her mother's happiness... but what if in the meantime the real perfect man comes along?

Well.
Heather Locklear is a long way from when she made her entrance into Dynasty. Not that she has acquired a more pleasant personality in the meantime, nor a less plastic-like appearance. In stark contrast, Hilary Duff, actually the heroine of this film, who has always been charming to me and gets away with it here too.
The plot is also completely sleep-inducing. Maybe that's why I missed one or more important details.

This Comedy/Drama film is mostly about the mothers and daughters, but the romance is never far away.
What can you give for your mother? And maybe a little for yourself too? Disappointed with her new boyfriend, Holly Hamilton (Hilary Duff)'s mother Jean Hamilton (Heather Locklear) wants to flee the city, but daughter Holly doesn't want her to leave. So she invents a new prince on the white horse for her mother and sends her flowers, notes and e-mails. They supposedly come from a real, tough man, someone who fills in puzzles with a pen (instead of a pencil like insecure men do) and who sees the moon as something magical. Holly's mother comes back to life, but eventually, of course, the truth comes out.
If you're going to watch "The Perfect Man", you have to throw a lot of logic overboard, but then the whole thing still looks nice and Hilary Duff and Heather Locklear were also nice and beautiful women to watch at the time.
