Somewhat disappointing.

Despite some witty passages, including the beginning, the film contains too many long parts that do not captivate. Alfie doesn't come across as logical/interesting either. The fact that he is raising his child for a while is quite contradictory to the situation. There are still some pieces in it.
The other characters, and I'm talking about the women, are rather empty and are portrayed very stupid / naive.

Michael Caine does a good job at times, but he's too busy imo. Of course he has that typical head and the somewhat stiff British way of going.

The camera monologues are of course well found (I assume that was not done yet in 1966); but the film does not look very attractive. The colors are very dull and it all looks very dated. The music is atmospheric.
Alfie is incredibly sexist - all women aka 'birds' are called 'it' - and so may not be equally accessible to everyone.

2.5

Through a young, outstanding Mikhail Caine, the life views of an incorrigible, naturally selfish, playboy are brought directly to the viewer and illustrated through multiple examples. The film is a bit long-winded, sometimes more or less repetitive, but it is still presented with a well-known British phlegm, quite fascinating and enjoyable.

The remake with Jude law wasn't really great but I kind of expected it to be a lot more interesting, that turned out to be a misconception on my part and despite the fact that Caine does a good job and the commentary he makes in the camera occasionally works fine, the film itself is rather boring because it is too much repetition of moves.
The moral at the end ( the man is selfish and not allowed to enjoy his freedom ) in which he is suddenly dumped by all the women is quite implausible and poorly executed .
