Especially because of the solid performance of Christopher Lee as the Freudian psychiatrist who goes crazy because of his experimental drug, this film is very worthwhile. Other than that, they just keep to the original Jeckyl & Hyde story in many things. This makes for a great predictability, but the nice nostalgic English atmosphere makes up for a lot. All in all a great film for fans of the Hammer films.

I was quite disappointed though! Of course, this film has to rely on the atmosphere and the cast, where the story is usually enjoyable enough, but here a few things were missing. Perhaps the story is also too familiar and it no longer manages to surprise you, but other old horror works with this theme also have that disadvantage that still manage to fascinate. The film just looks a bit boring and there is no tension at all. Fortunately, the film only lasts 75 minutes, but I didn't have that feeling. Bit sleep-inducing. 4/10

Nice adaptation of the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson. Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing do what they do best and the decoration of the film looks attractive and well cared for. Lee's metamorphic is done with minimal resources but is effective.

This kind of romantic horror is suitable for the nostalgic horror enthusiast who wants to imagine themselves in other times for 75 minutes with a good glass of red wine. There are certainly better films in the genre, but now 50 years later this one is still fun enough.

For fans, it is now available on Netflix

Above average.
