dr. Henry Jekyll is an ambitious scientist that day and is working on a serum that would cure all diseases and make people immortal. He comes to the conclusion that female hormones can help with this. One of his experiments gets out of hand when he uses himself as a guinea pig. He turns into an attractive but evil woman. Desperately trying to hide his dual identity, he tells the residents of the apartment building where he lives that he has a sister who visits him sporadically. Unfortunately, he no longer has control over his alter ego and more and more women are being murdered in a bloody way in the unholy streets of London.

Nice film in which a doctor's experiment does not go as he had hoped. The film gives an entertaining twist to the well-known story by Robert Louis Stevenson and that twist is also well worked out. A bit monotonous though. The two title characters are excellently cast as there is a physical resemblance.

I expected a bit more from the film, the acting of Dr Jekyll (Ralph Bates) in particular was excellent! Almost the entire film, there is a nice dark atmosphere, an excellent Victorian London at night, which is given extra power by the thick fog. However, in my opinion, more tension could have been built up. The gore in the film was not gripping for me, as well as the murders which in my opinion were just way too soft.

The well-known story of Jekyll & Hyde, but with an original angle. The story is captivating because the main character wants to invent an elixir of life to be able to live long enough to be able to carry out all the scientific things he wants to achieve. Another nice fact is that he needs female hormones to brew that elixir of life. The director really thought about it. The fact that he incorporated the Whitechapel murders of Jack the Ripper is also an original addition. The atmosphere and acting are excellent. Ralph Bates as Dr. Henry Jekyll and Martine Beswick as Sister Hyde are cast in their roles and the transformation between the two is excellently portrayed. And I don't really mean the external transformation, but the character itself. Although the casting of Beswick is well chosen in terms of looks because she does have something that matches the main character. Nice discovery! 7/10
