Amsterdam Global Village plot

Amsterdam Global Village is Johan van der Keuken's forty-seventh film. In this four-hour epic, he portrays his 'hometown' Amsterdam and its inhabitants. Like the city, his film is constructed like a true labyrinth. Van der Keuken's camera circles in slow movements over the water of the Amsterdam canals, along the streets and squares. The tour is full of encounters with Amsterdam citizens of the world: it is a 'distant journey to near'. The 'hero' of the film is the young Moroccan moped courier Khalid. In a disarming way, he takes the viewer on his fast rides through Amsterdam Global Village.
