Nice war film with solid performances by Danny Glover and Gene Hackman, although I was a bit irritated by Hackman who walked the entire film as if he had shit his pants. The rest of the cast is just mediocre.
The film slides along a bit and has some good scenes including the scene on the minefield. The scene where Glover steals that helicopter is also funny. Unfortunately, 105 mins is a bit too much and it is quite boring at times.

Great movie in its genre, war. Set in Vietnam, the Colonel (Gene Hackman) the story revolves around is on a mission to determine where and how much resistance the Americans can expect from the VC as the "Communists" advance south. . And then it happens......., that will be the beginning of a great and sometimes really exciting film! A 7.5.

I thought it was more of an adventure movie than a war movie. An officer hits behind enemy lines in Vietnam and can only count on a reconnaissance pilot, Birddog, to rescue him. A bond develops between the man on the ground and the man in the air. There are much better Vietnam movies like this one, but this rescue mission remains entertaining all along the line. Hackman in the lead role... Jeezes how many movies has that man actually been in in his life? Danny Glover as always lighthearted and cool but that lack of seriousness doesn't quite fit here. As a snack, not bad at all..
