Beautiful story about a girl who is sent to a convent by her father and who later in life turns against the Christian faith because she believes that there is a better, new world that is not dominated by men. That new world indeed comes in the form of an invasion by Muslims. She lets herself be dragged into an orgy of violence and sex, in which many nuns and others lose their lives. At first she consciously cooperates in this in order to take revenge on her father, but slowly but surely she discovers that the new world is not much different from the old one. This world is also dominated by men who think that women are their property and only good for 2 things.
So now she's caught between two worlds and we're already at the end of the movie where she's captured and sentenced to death. You don't see much of her death, but what you do see is gruesome enough to know it wasn't pleasant.
Furthermore, the film contains 1 more gruesome scene that can compete with the better torture scenes from, for example, Mark Of The Devil.
The acting is excellent, as is the soundtrack. The dubbing didn't really bother me this time.
Great video.

I do like nunsploitation: if you're lucky, lots of murder and manslaughter, gore, sex and of course a lot of naked nuns, who especially like to do it with each other. Well, that's a big disappointment in this film. I didn't see much that was gruesome and certainly not the sex. In addition, leading actress Florinda Bolkan doesn't have any sexy charisma. No, her mission is to free the world from male supremacy. Well, that hasn't really worked out so far.

It is therefore a rather 'feminist' film, and that was of course a hit in 1974. Usually the mother superior in such a convent is a slut, in this case she is an ally of our feminist nun who was sent to the convent by her father. Why is not very clear. But in those days all girls from the better circles were married off or sent to the convent. I did get the creeps from that hysterically laughing mother superior. Apart from that, not much happens. Flavia returns to that convent again and again for unclear reasons after her wanderings. She gradually becomes excited by all those beautiful Muslim men who have invaded southern Italy. But nothing happens. I found that scene with the horse a bit over the top and has nothing to do with the story.
