The Woman on the Beach plot
"Go ahead and say it...I'm no good!"
After recovering from his war wounds, Lieutenant Scott Burnett finds a job with the Coast Guard in a small California town. He is also about to marry a local girl. One day, however, he meets the beautiful Peggy on the beach. He brings her back home and meets her husband Tod, once a great painter but now blind due to a car accident caused by a drunken Peggy. The more Scott is attracted to Peggy, the more he doubts Tod's blindness. He becomes convinced that the couple is playing a dark and perverted game with him and is determined to expose Tod.

A weird film with characters who make weird decisions and with weird, confrontational conversations; no tension is built up between Tod and Scott, and indeed Robert Ryan plays quite emotionlessly.
Why Tod looks up Scott time and again remains a mystery.
