Usually franchises around part 4 are already at a pitiful and downright ridiculous level. Tremors 4 is not that bad in that respect. This part came along from the video store tonight and I have to say; just like the previous two sequels, it's all still pretty fun. Nothing high-quality and certainly not as fun as the first film, but it still remains amusing pulp. Characters and plot are all interchangeable, but the humor, the action and a great Michael Gross make the film quite worthwhile. I think the franchise can still go on.

3 modest stars.

This movie looks very low budget, it looks like a cheap TV movie. The setting in which one goes back to the wild west is nicely conceived, but not so well developed and totally unconvincing. They try to repeat the tension and threat of the earthworms from the first part, but anyone who has seen the previous films knows what to expect. Fortunately, the ugly CGI monsters from the second part are not shown here.

This time, Michael Gross plays Hiram Gummer, a ancestor of Burt Gummer, a very different personality than in the other films in this series. Gross is the only familiar face in this film besides Billy Drago, all the other actors seem totally unknown and ignorant to me.

The description of this film says "sometime in the 1800s", but the film is set in 1889. They probably meant to say "sometime in the 1800s".

It's great that director SS Wilson is bringing back the practical effects in full glory with this fourth part. The rather mediocre computer effects started to play too large a role in the past. Unfortunately, the writers do not really deviate from the basic idea, which again makes it unsurprising in terms of content. These types of films are of course about entertainment, but seeing the same thing over and over eventually takes its toll. Nevertheless, the event still has some eccentric characters and a charming finale. Once the Graboids emerge from the ground, the film revives considerably, but apart from the fact that this is an origin story, it remains a tired event.
