He does not care about politics, interesting pleasure rules his life. Until, against his principles, he falls in love with Tereza (Juliette Binoche), a country girl with a penchant for books. I must honestly say that after my high hopes, this one was a bit disappointing.

Found it pretty boring, and I couldn't really get into it.

Some scenes were nice, and the acting was good, but I didn't like it much and I was annoyed by Tereza's character.

2* (can't make more of it)

The beautiful title of this film immediately appealed to me. I haven't read the book, but I think the movie is very beautiful and captivating. Because of the long playing time I watched it in parts. I'm kind of sad that it's over now, because I enjoyed watching it. It is so dreamy and atmospheric with good acting and appropriate music. I find Juliette Binoche very sweet and fun in this movie, and I also like the characters of Daniel Day-Lewis and Lena Olin, and I like the dog and the pig. I didn't find it consistently interesting, but when I look at it as a whole, I find it to be a very strong, poignant and sensitive film. The ending especially moved me. I didn't see that coming. Anyway, I don't think the movie is predictable. I think it's a work of art! 4.5*

Pretty erotic movie.

Would "lightness" refer to immediately giving in to the urge for pleasure and "intolerance" to the inability to take responsibility and the fear of having to do it anyway?

Every now and then the political background demands some attention, but it doesn't weigh on it and we mainly experience a psychological portrait of the three main characters.

Some scenes are a bit long, but on the other hand, the camera is full of original finds.

I especially liked Lena Olin's acting, but a young Juliette Binoche and Daniel Day-Lewis are not far below that.

Not as great as the title would suggest.
