When reading the story, this seemed like a super exciting mystery thriller, but in the end a reasonable SF thriller.

The film starts very mysteriously, but quickly goes to the punch line.

Such a shame because a longer doubt about Telly's mental state would have made the film so much better!

On the one hand it is surprising, but on the other hand the tension is immediately a bit less in that regard.

Although the film turns into a "cheap" x-files episode at times, the search for Sam remains exciting.

Julianne Moore always continues to act well and credibly in these kinds of genres, just a pity that Gary Sinise had too small a role.

When some longer doubts had been built in at the beginning and later some more mysterious sf had been applied (instead of rushed cheap events) it could have been a topper, but still sufficient.

7-

3*

Another film that gradually gets weaker. The construction is fine. It soon becomes clear that something is not right with Telly and that is not stretched too long but quickly revealed: nice. A psychological thriller is imminent. Gradually we appear to be dealing with a X-Files-like sf: nothing wrong with that either, I can go along with that (I can imagine that some people drop out). Moore's acting is fine. I can also digest that not everything is explained, because that is not the most important part of the story.

But what is most important for the writer/director doesn't grab me. The drama, the parent-child bond: nope. Of course that child is uber-cute and smiling when taking off on the plane, 'i love you mom', and the mother is so proud and happy, and we have to see that over and over. Yes, yes, what a drama. The ending is terrifying: mother's love wins against an alien experiment and everything is reversed, horrible.

The premise surrounding memory is interesting, but the chosen path and elaboration was unfortunate for me.

Very bad. At first we get a lot of indications that Moore's character is delusional, but then you already feel that it will turn out that she was completely right. And then a lot of paranormality takes place, where you indeed have to think about The X-Files, because we don't get answers. Moore's character will of course get her son back as expected. That lack of answers can sometimes lead to an oppressive and intriguing atmosphere, here it mainly creates the feeling of a cheap trick. In combination with the predictability surrounding Moore's character, I arrive at 0.5*.
