Isn't this just a failed project?

Damn...how very awkward. The film couldn't boast or lean on anything. Not even, or not even on the acting, including Tom Hanks; they were blows in the air. It seemed as if no one actually believed in it during the recordings.

I don't know all the Coen brothers, but if this is typical of their quality, then I don't need to see anything anymore.

Unfortunately I can't put my finger on the sore spot. But if the humor is not fun (everything is exaggerated in a kind of parody), or misunderstood or oh-so genius, then at least let it be exciting in between... No, there is no attention at all, let alone time spent on.

It's a shame because the story itself had everything to be both exciting and humorous.

Perhaps it lies in the fact that the 'types' have been portrayed too parodiously; no casual madness, but incited madness... ; and if you also have to act clumsy... phew... it doesn't work here. This only works with a perfect typecast, or actors who can handle this particular subtlety. Now everything remained completely unbelievable... an ordinary; ridiculous. It had the level of a children's comic.

If there were still fabulous texts to be debited, or quick puns or nice thoughtful thinkers… well no… it wasn't possible either.

Was it perhaps a glitch because they wanted to stick with it and stay true to the 1955 film or the script? No idea.

Maybe the book was once fun...

What is a failure worth? ...a 1.5* maybe

funny.

Finally another comedy by the Coen brothers that I can draw a little better. Sometimes they are not my thing at all, but sometimes they can charm me easily. Despite the fact that I can appreciate their thrillers a bit better than this kind of jolly stuff, this film went into it easily. The first half is certainly delightful.

The stylistic view of films that the Coens have can sometimes turn out to be very advantageous. Has also made other films enjoyable viewing experiences, and The Ladykillers is no different. The first hour is very smooth and the final is also going well. It's actually a bit in the middle than giving it all away, otherwise the Coens have a strong control over the film.

Acting is also good, much needed for a film like this. Hanks plays a funny character and also seems to realize very well what to do with it. A bit of a shame that Wayans also seems to know very well what he wants, but together those characters don't go very well together. There are very different comedy styles that are linked together. Now I didn't find the film really hilarious anywhere, but that's a minor distraction.

On the other hand, there is a beautifully decorated film with good camera work, strong cinematography and a beautiful eye for detail. Every scene is basically a hit because the Coens can always catch the right focus. It's a shame that the pace itself sometimes wavers, otherwise the film is well on its way for a very long time and I can only watch it well. Light-hearted discovery, to do for a nice lazy evening.

Entertaining.

It's all just a bit too bland to belong to the better Coen film, but after an extremely weak start, everything turns out okay. The characters are there - some are more successful than others. Acting is okay, but it's just that typical Coen vibe that does it. Sometimes too bland, but often fun. I really like seeing crime comedies in which everything, of course, doesn't go as planned. Especially if it's a bit chilly. That should have been the case here even more - in exchange for the bland parts like JK Simmons and his spastic gut, just to give an easy example.
