Blink plot

"What you can't see, can kill you."

Emma is a beautiful young woman who is blinded by her mother. Due to a certain new technique, she can occasionally see through eye surgery. The problem is that she can only 'remember' what she sees later. When she is awakened by noise one night, she sees a figure running down the stairs. Convinced that something has happened to her neighbor, she approaches the police. But they don't value the story of an almost completely blind woman.

It's strange that this film gets such a relatively low average here, since it still hasn't stood out to me after an overwhelming first viewing. In any case, Emma's character is intriguing and has a nice fierce character compared to the somewhat sluggish John Hallstrom (well portrayed by Aidan Quinn: annoying, but still sympathetic). The two have excellent chemistry between them, making them a fun couple to watch.

However, Blink is not only about the acting of the main characters, but also about atmospheric and terrifying situations. The moment when Emma first registers the killer after he has been gone for hours is very atmospheric and disturbing, especially because of the cold look of that figure. The moments that follow where it is not immediately obvious whether or not Emma can be trusted as a witness are also perfectly filmed in a way that we as viewers also get confused about what is and isn't real.

The film does have a number of unrealistic issues, with the behavior of her guide dog (who reacts too much to other people) and the way she can suddenly wield a weapon at the top. These are minor flaws in an otherwise very exciting film, too bad I still haven't found it on DVD.

Very nice thriller that relies on the beautiful and well acting Madeleine Stowe. The plot is quite interesting. The perspectives of a recovering blind person in particular are convincingly portrayed. Here and there the film was reminiscent of Wait until Dark (1967), but all a bit less exciting.

However, the trump cards of the film remain Stowe and also Quinn who together have a strong chemistry and therefore ensure that the film remains worth watching.

Above average.

Reasonable film about a blind woman who partially regains her vision through an operation. A fairly standard thriller with a serial killer, but where the tension mainly comes from what the main character can and cannot see. Certainly not bad, but here and there it sinks in and it is a bit predictable. A narrow 3.0 stars.
