Very funny film by Roger Coreman, not that the jokes are that great but the amazing acting quartet of Peter Lorre, Vincent Prize, Boris Karloff and Jack Nicolson manage to set a light and fun tone with their wonderfully cool acting. The atmosphere and decors are also very successful, only a pity that the story doesn't have much substance. Anyway, The Raven is a very atmospheric and successful film by Coreman.

Wow, the cast is phenomenal anyway. Price, Karloff and Lorre in a kind of fairytale movie about wizards. I didn't even recognize the very young Jack Nicholson. Oh, the duel looked a bit dated and bland, but all in all this was still a pleasant movie. Funny that they used the footage from this movie for the burning down of the abbey in "The Tomb of Ligeia".

3*

And in the review as a small tribute to Roger Corman who passed away earlier this year. Those Edgar Allen Poe film adaptations came by with some regularity on the German. Now in a nice box on Blu Ray. Always had a soft spot for The Raven. Not a literal Poe film adaptation but a comic horror with some elements from Poe's poem. Most fun of course because of the cast with Vincent Price vs Boris Karloff and as an extra dessert Peter Lorre. Yep also with a very young Jack Nicholson who hung around in the Corman camp at that time. This remains fun. Forget Harry Potter, these are the real wizards.
