A hidden gem, that's this Lone Star. Named after Texas's nickname, with that one star on its flag, but also after the sheriff, who proudly carries a gold star on his chest. For the main character of this film is a sheriff, one who will forever be compared to his blessed father, a true legend who redeemed the region from his corrupt predecessor and taught his people the word "justice." Until a find is made that could give this legend a dent. That mystery is the common thread throughout the film, but what really counts are the carefully woven relationships in the village. As a viewer, you feel like a native who has to learn who is who, which is of course obvious to the natives. They all have their dreams, worries and secrets, and they are all very strongly interpreted. You don't see actors, you see rednecks and chicanos, people smugglers and law enforcement officers. The scenario, built up of beautiful dialogues, plays a role that should not be underestimated. The music is a great addition, because it fits perfectly with the atmosphere that John Sayles creates in this film. Hats off to the way he seamlessly weaves flashbacks into the narration. Lone Star is a story like Twin Peaks and True Detective, only without bizarre dreams and occult undertones.

Powerful small-town drama, set in the sometimes horribly beautiful Texas, where in multicultural the word culture has lost little of meaning. Lone Star tells a special story where an old acquaintance is dug up and the local sheriff and several county residents look back into the past. The question that is central during the entire film remains unanswered for a long time and various options are kept open through the various storylines that arise. Here and there it is elaborated a bit further than necessary, but nowhere is the main line of the story forgotten and the central issue is worked out in a beautiful way.

Good film in which a sheriff investigates when a skeleton is found in the desert. The entire community (town in Texas) in which the film is set is excellently portrayed, but the film may have too many characters. The murder mystery is naturally acquired in the whole. The flashbacks are nicely edited.
