I really don't know what label to put on this movie.
What is certain is that it concerns a neglected, drugged youth and a paranoid old man in an atmosphere of despair, indifference, sometimes feigned passion and brutality.
It is certainly absurd when a teenager is murdered and one never sees or hears the reaction of the family.
Never got into the movie.

Quirky postmodernist coming of age film.

Gloomy but beautiful film, which gives an impression of puberty in the 80s. The characters are well developed and the dilemma is beautifully depicted.

Reeves makes an impression in one of his first relevant roles. Glover plays a strange character that fits the context of the time and the film. In addition to Glover, Hopper is also quite over the top and occasionally these two characters ensure that the film threatens to derail, but the foundation of the film ultimately proves to be strong enough to remain interesting for the entire running time.

In terms of theme I was occasionally reminded of Stand by Me (1986) and in terms of atmosphere of Elephant (2003)

In addition, the Slayer soundtrack is worth mentioning.

Very good.

Pretty good, and if Crispin Glover wasn't so annoying with his constant overacting, I would have given the film even more. A cold, gloomy crime drama in which a group of young people do not know how to deal with the murder of one of their friends. River's Edge shows marginal environments, such as Matt and Tim's family, and strange figures who go down the wrong path. Keanu Reeves and Ione Skye are not doing bad, but it is Dennis Hopper again as the crazy dealer Feck who steals the show with his inflatable doll. I ate so much pussy in those days, my beard looked like a glazed donut. Only he can get away with such crazy statements. I also remember the emotional dialogue between Reeves and Skye in which she says that being dead is better than not feeling anything at all for someone you knew. An icy and negative atmosphere in this film, where the actions and dialogues seem to point to the indifference of a generation. Very worthwhile.
