"A story about one man's search... for who knows what."
At night he can be found in the Trees Lounge, a bar, and during the day he spends his time in the garage where he worked. His brother still works there, and his former employer now has his girlfriend, who is pregnant. With a job as an ice cream seller he tries to rebuild his life, but he has no real friends.

Very nice, small-scale work in which Buscemi can be found behind the buttons as well as on stage. To be honest, I didn't even know this genius man directed, but it's clearly handy. Classical records play in the background while cigarettes are smoked in half broken daylight and a glass of alcohol is consumed here and there. Tommy's life is quite simple but he does care about the people around him. There are no serious problems; it is precisely the everyday experiences, spread over a limited scope, that create a beautiful direct hit.

Good film about a drunken layabout who spends most of his time in the local pub. Not really a story, but enough fun and also touching scenes. An excellent directorial debut by Steve Buscemi, who also plays an excellent lead role here. Certainly similar to Barfly, but slightly lighter.

Even with a revision of more than 7 and a half years, it remains an interesting whole.
Steve Buscemi clearly has a talent not only for acting, but also for putting together a decent film.
The story pace is slow and the characters really come across.
Chloë Sevigny is also a strong co-star, in my opinion she should have had more scenes. 
Funny that the Baldwin brothers look so much alike, I doubted if it was a young Alec Baldwin, but it was his brother Daniel.
