It is not very strange that many viewers of Babe: Pig in the City are surprised. Based on the premise or poster, this print about a talking pig in the big city seems purely for the little ones. In the comments here, the word 'dark' comes up quite often, but that may not be the right word. Because Babe: Pig in the City is and remains a purebred, colorful family film with enough elements that are fun for the little ones, such as over the top slapstick, a fairly easy to follow story and of course a lot of cuddly animals that talk with squeaky voices.

But Pig in the City is also more than that, thanks mainly to the directing by George Miller. In the direction you see less the director of Happy Feet - the film that Miller made after this film - but more the director of Mad Max: Fury Road. Technically, especially in the chases and action scenes, this Babe is hugely impressive. Visually, the film comes with a huge range of superb sets, dynamic cinematography and a ton of creative finds. In terms of story and characters, it's all so so, but especially technically Babe: Pig in the City is better and more interesting than many family films.

3.5 stars.

What a shit movie. Part 1 makes you feel warm and blissful. In part 2 misery comes on misery and you just feel stressed and you think what am I looking at? Waiting for it to get nice and warm. Then you can wait a long time. Only the first and last minutes of the movie are fun.
