We're not going to talk about the complicated confusion with Zombie 3 from 1981, this is the official Lucio Fulci sequel to the classic Zombi 2 (1979).

A mess actually, but a hilarious mess with a few major WTF moments. Fulci didn't like it all and blamed the producer for the flop. You notice that we are already well into the 80s: the grimness is already diminishing and some humor is taking its place. There is certainly no room for drama and relationship problems a la The Walking Dead. Zombie action film with some 80s gore, very enjoyable for fans.

Much duller than its excellent predecessor (3.5*). Fulci started filming in the Philippines and turned many Filipinos into living dead. There is plenty of shooting, hitting, fighting and shouting... but it is not interesting at all and the zombies are very tame and not very frightening. If Fulci were still alive I would have said... Lucio, you can't shoot zombies... they are already dead. Zombi 3 is very violent and has a high action film content; This means there is no question of a horror classic. Least Fulci I've seen so far.

The stories are known. Fulci would prefer not to have this on his CV and had constant disagreements with the producer. He eventually asked Bruno Mattei and Claudio Fragasso (also the writer of the film) to finish the film.

The result is a jar. The film is very reminiscent of Bruno Mattei's Virus (1980), which was not unexpectedly also written by Fragasso. Partly because we are once again dealing with such a mess of incompetent group of Special(needs) Forces. In this Zombi 3 you can point out exactly what is directed by Mattei and what is directed by Fulci. They are 2 quite different filmmakers and Zombi 3 has also become such a meat and fish film.

Sometimes the zombies are slow and are depicted ominously. Other times they jump like a ninja from the ceiling into a fighting position. I prefer the first variant. I take the plotholes for granted, but even the soundtrack (often worth it in these types of projects) was too easy for me.

In terms of gore it is sufficient, but it never really gets very nasty. It's all quite cartoony.

Not too good, and compared to Fulci's Zombi 2 this is even a complete monstrosity. Tight 2.5*.
