Upon rewatching, this film turned out to be even better than expected. A slasher film like many others, but actually quite well done for this genre. The cast is decent and there is sufficient suspense. The first real debut of Anna Faris, who would become big a year later with a parody of the genre in Scary Movie. Lovers Lane was made after Scream, by the way, which would give the slasher film genre a huge boost in the 90s with new copycats.

The film doesn't do anything new, but fans of the genre will probably love it. All the elements of a slasher film are certainly present.

An uninteresting slash affair that primarily attempts to put an original weapon on screen. To a certain extent, Lovers Lane succeeds in this, but when it needs to be deployed, director Jon Steven Ward frequently resorts to off-screen hacking. The acting is decent given the limited space and a number of plot twists land nicely, but otherwise, this film has very little to offer. After an introduction, the action devolves into a repetition of set pieces that barely serve any purpose and a small number of teenagers being killed off in a rather unoriginal manner. A missed opportunity considering the potential.
