Excellent!

I'm always up for a biography of someone who historically means something (whether in a positive or negative sense, it doesn't matter much). And what a beautiful piece of modern post-war US history this has become!

Initially had some fear that the film would get boring given the long running time, but nothing could be further from the truth. I really didn't get bored for a second. Well, okay then, I didn't always find the flashbacks to his childhood very successful and interesting.

Shall we talk about Nixon for a moment? Hopkins, what a performance. Awesome! I really forgot I was watching an actor, and that's what an actor should strive for. The human Nixon emerges in this film as someone who suffers from megalomania. Could it be that he was schizophrenic, by the way? How many times he referred to himself in the third person! Also someone who is all over corpses when it comes to power and even in the end still thinks he did nothing wrong - "A stupid burglary". Also extremely self-focused and prone to manipulation from his staff. That there has ever been talk of dropping an atomic bomb on Hanoi or calling in the army and starting a civil war in the US is too crazy for words! It is frightening that such a person has even been at the head of the most powerful country in the world.

In any case, it has become an extremely captivating viewing piece that examines both Nixon's political and personal life.

Very interesting portrait of Nixon. What Anthony Hopkins does in this film is truly amazing. It's almost terrifying how well he plays Nixon in this movie. Despite the long running time, the film is not long-winded for one moment. I find the political intrigues especially interesting. Good dark music by John Williams.

4.0*

The movie does a lot of good. This is a pretty decent look into the life surrounding President Nixon. I especially find the political game in the back rooms fascinating to watch. The decoration is fine and the direction is good with a smooth editing that makes the 190 minutes go by smoothly. But the play with different formats and black and white is a lot less than in Born on the Fourth of July and JFK. There it also seemed to support the content, now it sometimes seems more pointless play.

Furthermore, I still don't really think the person Nixon comes forward. Hopkins does well, although it sometimes tends to theatrical, but as a viewer I don't get real answers. There seems to be something to be searched for in Nixon's youth, but I didn't find that really convincing, rather a bit cheap.

And although the 190 minutes go smoothly, it is just a bit too long for the content. 3.0*.
