Nice video. Very cynical to the core. A man so unlucky that he is tasked with cooling hot tables in a casino. Macy is cut out for such a role. Blessed by nature with the look of the ultimate loser, the limping leg does the rest, while Kramer takes things up a notch with the way he captures his slob on camera.

And the boss is happy with this Bernie, because it's worth gold for the toko. You naturally want to keep such a person deeply unhappy and Shelly is about corpses. At first glance, he is a nice old-fashioned guy, but in the meantime he doesn't shy away from breaking knees and faces when his trade is at stake. Baldwin is doing well.

From gentle to ruthless in the blink of an eye. Through Lady Fortuna the sun shines in Bernie's life and that is sometimes a bit sentimental, happiness is not a bed of roses either, but the film can have that. The late night muzak (nice sax) gives it a relaxed atmosphere, some juicy dialogues put it on edge and Bernie has a huge gun factor.

Okay Kramer.

I expected a film in the same style as Running Scared, but I was soon able to let go of those expectations. Fortunately, that didn't mean that the rest of the film was bad, but also not very good in the end unfortunately.

Macy and Baldwin really are the show stealers of the movie. Macy is a lovely character and a real loser. He is now also the standard best suited for this role, but he performs it quite convincingly. Baldwin also plays above average for his own sake. Bello didn't impress me too much, other than her looks.

Las Vegas is a beautiful location, but the location is nowhere near being used optimally. And now Kramer is quite good as a director, so why not a little more of the city itself? Camera work was okay, not as cleverly put together as Running Scared, but it's adequate.

I thought the soundtrack was very mediocre. Often it was completely misapplied. It's quite a disruptor. The casino often could have been a bit more handsome in the picture. The start is also too slow, only in the second part we get a bit more speed.

Film is an upward trend, but when the film really starts to become fun, it has almost already ended. It's a shame, because the film wasn't bad at all, but it lacks those elements that it sometimes needs. Story on which it relies is also not nearly good enough for a setting like this.

“I thought shit like that only happened in the movies.”

The Cooler is an excellent black comedy about Bernie, a bad luck gambler who gets into trouble. You can't go wrong with William H. Macy (especially in these types of roles), and Bello, Baldwin and the other actors are also on a roll. Funny, pitiful, romantic and sexy… The Cooler doesn't do much wrong. Wayne Kramer's direction is a bit colorless, but this is really an actor's film. And with such actors it is almost impossible to go wrong.
