Platoon Leader plot

"War is hell. This was worse..."

Jeff Knight, a young lieutenant trained at West Point, is sent to Vietnam. There he has to 'protect' a South Vietnamese village with a platoon against the Vietcong. The only military knowledge he has, for the time being, comes from the handbooks. He can therefore count on little respect from his superiors and men. Only when Jeff is seriously injured does he gain recognition.

I can fully agree with the last two comments, in the beginning we are confronted with a build-up in which we get to know a completely cynical team that has been in the war zone of Vietnam for some time and has to look after a village. The reason is not entirely clear to me, but it will probably be under the motto: "once conquered, remains conquered". And then when their previous commanding officer has been gone for 3 days because he was completely underperforming and wants to leave for the change, the young Lieutenant Jeff Knight (Michael Dudikoff) comes to replace him. As I mentioned earlier in this piece, the group of soldiers and some non-commissioned officers are completely unmotivated and very cynical. Knight has the noble task of getting everything back on track.

A fine film about the Vietnam War, not the best but definitely not the worst either!

A nice 7 as a rating.

Watched today on blu-ray, bought in Germany with excellent picture and sound quality!

The film resembles a Tour of Duty episode, the story is that a group of soldiers led by Dudikoff has to protect a village where inhabitants live, so a simple story.

We see quite a few explosions and shootings (no fights), especially around the middle of the film the attack of the Vietcong on their home base (near the village) is very nicely depicted.

But towards the end comes the best scene and that is again an attack but this time on the village itself where the inhabitants are, we see many explosions and shootings, really very well captured.

They also paid attention to emotions, the music and a bit of story in the film between the soldiers.

All in all a great action/war film, the only downside I find is that it sometimes becomes a bit monotonous and that you don't see that much of the Vietcong themselves.
