Atmospheric, but jet-black comedy by Dino Risi about a once proud officer who has reached the end of his tether. He likes being around beautiful young women, but he doesn't want to know anything about the youthful, deeply in love Sara, who still knows him from before his accident. The ending is beautiful.
Outstanding role by Risi's favorite actor Vittorio Gassman. Agostina Belli is really stunning.
A lot better than the American remake from 1992, which differs greatly from this Italian original in parts.

A young soldier has to escort a blind commander and a young woman is in love with the commander, but he doesn't like her. The story is all very little, but the film still manages to fascinate. The film also gives a nice picture of the time. It is more of an atmosphere impression.

I actually quite enjoyed this amusing Italian film. I didn't know it was the original movie of the American remake with Al Pacino. A nice role from Gassman as the coquettish Captain Consolo. But it is indeed arguable that you find this man or his role extremely annoying. I did see the humor in how he manages to bend everything and everyone to his will, not least poor Ciccio.
In any case, it produces some fun and witty scenes that regularly put a smile on my face. A melancholy film, magic is greatly exaggerated, but a film with a certain schwung or joie de vivre that has a lot to do with the captain's charisma or simply because he is nice and juicy Italian. And those films, especially the older ones, still evoke that effervescent Italian charm.
A lot has already been written down here about Agostina Belli. I can only confirm, of course. Beautiful lady.
