“A person's body is his temple.”

Superb movie. I saw The Ice Storm once years ago, and I do remember that I thought it was a very impressive film. When revising, there are also all kinds of new things that make the film even better. Of course the acting is strong and Ang Lee's direction is razor-sharp, but the beautiful cinematography and especially the atmospheric music now stand out even more.

We follow two families who at first sight seem friendly in the early 1970s, but underneath that lies an explosive world full of affairs, marital problems, the teenagers' curiosity about sex, and a lot of drink and drugs. Of the actors, Christina Ricci impresses the most, but Kline, Allen, Weaver, Sheridan and Maguire are also excellent. There is no weak link in a cast of famous headliners. They are all characters who struggle with themselves, and the result is a film full of tragedy, recognizable problems and even some black humor. And I can't praise the cinematography and the music enough. A gem from Ang Lee.

Beautiful film about two families who live next door and celebrate Thanksgiving. An adult drama in which the characters and their mutual relationships are excellently portrayed (the entire cast also fills this in more than fine). Nicely dressed (especially the costumes). Furthermore, the ice rain itself provides a number of atmospheric pictures.

Friendly.

Only just found out that this movie was directed by Ang Lee. A director that I think can deliver wonderful films. That is if he focuses on the right projects, and the more subtle and romantic films are definitely not one of them. Although The Ice Storm is quite reasonable.

A bit simple, but I no longer expect an intellectual or extremely complex story in the average American drama film. Ang Lee focuses very much on the development of the characters, some of which also come out well. For example, I found the escalating relationships between Weaver and Wood strongly designed, on the other hand the film does have an overweight of characters who do not all fit in the film.

As for the title of the movie; don't get your chest wet. This film has little to do with disaster. It seems more like a thematic addition to spice up the finale, but this is short-lived. Ultimately, the content itself is placed in the foreground. This one is hardly surprising and even quite rehashed, but still quite fascinating.

In terms of design, it's just not enough, there is just too much advantage squeezed from the environment while the direction had to take the film in tow. Based on that, I can't call it a wonderfully successful film, but it is a film that has its heart in the right place and is definitely a bit more captivating than the average drama film. That is of course sufficient.
