Vanilla Sky is a movie I've known for a long time but never watched it in its entirety. Also Abre los ojos I have not seen what this film would be the remake of. I thought Vanilla Sky was a fascinating, so to speak, mindfuck film with a romantic touch. As always, Tom Cruise plays wonderfully and there are two beautiful ladies in the film, Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz. The swing with which Cruise goes through life in the beginning of the film is very nice, he doesn't seem to care about anything and I found that quite funny at times. I also really liked the music as rock is one of my favorite genres of music. For example, a lot of (semi) classics pass by and that is always nice if they are used in the right context.

The idea of lucid dreaming has been used before, the last one I saw is the South Korean film Loosideu Deurim (2017) in which a father tries to find the kidnapper of his son through lucid dreams. With these kinds of films you can go in a lot of directions and that makes it a lot harder to predict. Vanilla Sky also reminded me of Wonder (2017) because it is clear how important your appearance is in the professional world. All in all, the film is also about what happiness actually is. It's probably different for everyone, but I think the real happiness for most people is in the little things. So don't give up if you're unhappy, because every new minute is another minute where you can completely change course. 4*

Great movie, unfortunately there are too few of them...

What if your life is a dream and your déjà vu is a hint to your true life..?

Watched this movie once when it was just out, talking to a friend, not paying attention and finally not understanding it. Weird film, I had to watch this one again, which just happened now.

First and foremost, Tom Cruise is (for me) one of the best actors out there and can really handle all kinds of roles in my opinion. His whole charisma is enough to want to follow a movie.

This movie seems to be a romantic drama at the beginning, but you still get the feeling that something is coming that has nothing to do with it.

Despite everything going smoothly for David (before and after his traumatic event), the film keeps you constantly questioning what happened. You are going to fill it in yourself, because something is just not quite right, but it is still too unclear what, so that you are really sucked into the story.

Little by little, very slowly it becomes a little clearer what seems to be going on, but as the end approaches, the theory you've probably come up with seems completely wrong and the ending is one that will last a very long time. stuck in your head..!

The ending in which the plot is actually explained really benefits the film(!), which made me want to look back or read more about it. In doing so, you also find out that you had actually already seen "the moment" (the moment when David wakes up on the sidewalk, Sofia comes into view with an unreal colored sky above her: "vanilla Sky")[/ spoiler], but that you had lost this due to the build-up of the film....

Truly a great film with another beautiful message "Every minute you have the opportunity to change your life if you want to"....

Film that indeed resembles the Spanish film of Amenabar Abre los Ojos (Film, 1997). I've never seen Vanilla sky and actually had no idea what it was about. So another remake production from Hollywood. The films are not entirely comparable. The synopsis may be similar, but the interpretation and tone are completely different. Where Amenabar previously made it into a thriller, here I got the feeling of something lighter, with a sauce of romance about it.

The mysterious part remains intact, where dream and reality alternate and flow into each other. It does demand something from the viewer, but it remains all in all palatable. Cruise is actually doing quite well here. Completely carries the film and comes across as believable as a character. A great actor, only I find most of his films less interesting.

Pretty well done all from Crowe keeping the momentum going and making it his own version. Balance in the film is good. Great roles also from Diaz and Cruz.
