It hadn't actually occurred to me that this Twin Warriors was directed by Yuen Woo-Ping. So, in retrospect, it does explain why the quality was so incredibly high.

Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh are clearly two standouts in the martial arts scene. The film opens nicely with young Junbao and Tienbao, who, years later, perform an incredible feat of stick fighting while cleaning. After that, there's plenty of action, and the martial arts scenes are very strong. Often interspersed with a healthy dose of humor, which is particularly well-executed by Jet Li. Especially when he completely loses his way, which leads him to talk to ducks, and one of his fellow characters often ends up being the victim. Twin Warriors is a fantastic Ping film packed with great action scenes, humor, and a brisk pace.

Nice review.

This one just doesn't quite hold a candle to the very best films; Yuen just isn't director enough for that. I felt there was a bit too much plot, and a bit more attention to color and lighting would have benefited the film, but then again, Yuen is primarily an action guy and focuses primarily on that.

With Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, he certainly has the right actors, and the tai chi style also provides some much-needed variety. It's a shame, though, that it takes Jet Li so long to finally master it, leaving only the final fight to fully showcase them.

Food for thought for the enthusiast. A little too sparse here and there, but in terms of action, absolutely on par with Yuen. And that's pretty much the highest of its kind.

4.0* and an extensive review

Revisited on Blu-ray from 88Films. A 4K scan of the original negatives with the Cantonese dub.

A simple story about friendship and betrayal, but the fight choreography is top-notch. Jet Li and Chin Siu-Ho also played fantastic together in The Fist of Legend, and Michelle Yeoh remains a badass.
