2000 Meters to Andriivka plot

A narrow strip of wooded land between two minefields in eastern Ukraine is the only road to Andriivka, the Russian-occupied village. In 2023, a Ukrainian platoon headed to the village in an attempt to liberate it. Journalist and filmmaker Mstislav Chernov followed the soldiers closely. The road to Andriivka is only two kilometers, but it took the soldiers three months to reach it. Video footage from helmet cameras and drones reveals why.

A microcosm of the failed Ukrainian offensive against the Russians in 2023, in which a group of soldiers is ordered to recapture two kilometers of wooded territory and capture Andriivka, a strategically important village. Chernov was there, follows the soldiers during the battles against a largely invisible enemy (and drones), and conducts interviews during the long periods when the soldiers are waiting for help or orders. The brief commentary from the only recognizable Russian soldier on screen is telling. Filmed mostly with helmet-mounted cameras, it is chaotic and confusing (just like in real life), but as an authentic portrayal of life at the front (reminiscent of No Man's Land during World War I), it is unparalleled.

Well, what can I say about this? It clearly shows the madness and senselessness of war. I can't say or make anything more about it.

It was good to see this documentary. Of course, you know that war is terrible, but this documentary shows the horror up close from the perspective of the soldiers. Thanks to the helmet cameras, it looks just like a PlayStation game. Only now, the gruesome reality is real.

The men are fighting for a shitty piece of land to plant a flag, only for it to be recaptured by the MF-ers much later. And most of them are volunteers, too. Heroic, but why...?

War is senseless and was devised by megalomaniacal narcissistic MF-ers who pretend to be playing a game of Risk. This at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives. How could humanity ever have produced such idiots?
