Orokamono no Mibun plot

Takuya and Mamoru pose as women on social media and approach men who aren't good at talking to women. Their job is to cleverly obtain and sell personal information from these men. They've fallen into this line of work because of their poor backgrounds. Aside from what they do, they're just ordinary young men having fun and always supporting each other. Takuya and Mamoru are trying to escape this existence with the help of Kenji, who introduced them to this world.

Damn.

I never used to watch trailers, but lately I've also been skipping the plot more often. I'm so glad I did with this film. It's the kind of film you should start with without any information. The impressive poster for Orokamono no Mibun (2025) was enough to make me watch it blindfolded.

A simple photo of three men posing for the camera, thanks to the genre and the age rating, makes you curious about the story behind it. And Jesus, what a story. The film provides a fantastic glimpse into the horrific Tokyo underworld where (primarily young) criminals are sometimes even victims themselves. Once you start, it's hard to get away with. The way Koto Nagata portrays this is sickening and therefore incredibly powerful.

She also manages to make viewers empathize with the main characters. At first, you think they're incredibly mean, but then you see some flashbacks that make you realize they don't do these things "for no reason."
While it's true that you always have a choice, we all know that choice overload is worrying and extremely paralyzing. You can also be incredibly unlucky and end up in such a world without asking. The film fantastically portrays how much the main characters care for each other. Their ultimate decision to leave speaks for itself.

Moreover, Orokamono no Mibun confirms for me once again why Asian cinema is better than Hollywood, which is literally an entertainment industry: entertaining to watch but often terribly unrealistic. For pure reality, you absolutely have to look outside of it, and Asia excels at this.

I'm going to be mulling this over a lot (well, not always) the next few days!
