Deliver Me from Nowhere plot

"Witness a true story of risking it all to fight for what you believe in."

In the early 80s, musician Bruce Springsteen is coming off a grueling tour of "The River." Struggling with depression, he rents a house in Colts Neck, New Jersey, and begins work on his sixth album, "Nebraska." This album tests the patience of a record label looking for a follow-up to his pop hit "Hungry Heart."

I usually have a hard time with these kinds of movies. For example, I'm a Johnny Cash fan, but I couldn't really enjoy "Walk the Line," no matter how good Phoenix was. I also didn't find the last Elvis film particularly special, nor did I find this one. I always compare myself too much to the real artist, and an actor can never win in that situation.

But that aside, I thought this was one of the least, even though I really love Springsteen. Incidentally, I think the LP "Nebraska" is one of his best, with wonderfully raw songs. I still play it regularly, crackling my ears.

And the film is about an artist going through a dark period, which might be interesting, but I'd rather give you an overview of his entire life and the wonderful things he created!

I've only been to De Kuip twice, and they were two unforgettable moments. The first time was the best, one of his concerts in 1985 (we're getting old), truly the best concert I've ever seen (and I've seen many). A speeding train that took me on a fantastic ride for over two hours!

The other time has nothing to do with film, but I'll mention it anyway. That was a few months later, when we qualified for the 1986 World Cup against the Netherlands thanks to a late goal from a certain Georges Grun...

Bruce Springsteen [Jeremy Allen White] is struggling with his mental health when he returns to his hometown at the end of "The River Tour" in 1981. His record label demands a new album of hits quickly, and with tracks like "Born In The USA" and "I'm On Fire," Bruce lays the foundation for continued success. However, a television screening of the film "Badlands," about serial killers Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate, inspires a completely different approach. With the help of just one engineer [Paul Walter Hauser] and a simple four-track cassette recorder, he records a series of deeply personal, somber songs that result in the album "Nebraska." The difficult relationship with Bruce's father [Stephen Graham] and his struggles with love after meeting the (fictional) Faye [Odessa Young] are explored in this sincere, yet superficial, look back at a crucial period in Springsteen's career. White gives a decent impression but falls short as an actor. The best moments are those with Bruce's mainstay Jon Landau [Jeremy Strong].

A decent film about Bruce Springsteen, who writes a new album after a successful tour. A biopic that covers a relatively short period (the writing and production of the album "Nebraska"). It's all rather clichéd, and the film moves along rather leisurely. There are certainly some excellent scenes (such as the artistic choices versus commercialism). Good acting too, but 3.5 stars is a bit too much.
