An entertaining horror film with a solid sense of quality, even though director Chito S. Roño frequently cranks up the volume. Espantaho is at times simply too full of all sorts of fuss and ineffective spookiness, but it's entertaining nonetheless. The acting is decent, and the filmmakers make a lot of attempts to bring original ideas to life, which, combined with its short duration, works more than adequately. A few plot twists towards the end are unnecessary, but nevertheless fit well into the overall picture Roño is trying to create. Excellent popcorn fodder with few dead ends.
